123 ignition

This makes no sense to me. My furnace will not light when my rig is unplugged from 120 volts. The batteries are fully charged putting out 12.3 volts. Plug it into 120 volts lights works everytime. Unplug...no ignition. Unplugged the Fan turns, sail switch works and is closed, thermostat works, gas valve works (I can smell the gas), I can hear the igniter popping...no go. Plug it in it works..

RE: If bail out passes and works

I have a friend who owns a small business, employs about 10 people that is about to close the doors. Who does he see to bail him out? I would rather see money go to him.

RE: High Test gas gets MUCH better MPG

can hear U'all screamin...NOPE...I am(or was) an absolute non-believer. My two sons kept arguing the point. I have a 2006 Class'A', Ford V10, 362 HP, 5 speed tranny. The book says to use regular 87 octane gas. I would only do it if THEY bought the 92 octane gas. They did...IT IS TRUE! On this last trip from Miami, Fl. out to Moab Utah and back. I saw a consistant 15% increase in MPG. (7.25 to 8.4 MPG) Whenever the gas cost difference between regular and High test is less than 15% increase its well worth it. Nowadays when gas is soo expensive I'm seeing the added cost of High Test at only 20 to 25 cents a gallon more which is only about a 6% increased cost based on regular at about $3.80 a gallon. Plus the added power on hills is impressive too. 15% minus 6% = 9% savings? Try it, U'll like it.
Absolutely
1 gallon regular 87 octane = 125,000 BTU
1 gallon high test gasoline = 125,000 BTU
Wonder if Kenny Bernstiens car will break 300 mph on 87 octane?
Octane affects fuel burn rate.
The higher the octane the further you can increase the compression ratio, advance the ignition timing, raise the cam duration making more horsepower, using that 125,000 btu more efficiently.

Weber-Q 100 for the motor and 200 for the house. Gave the 300 as a gift. Best grills on the market.

Tired of dealing with ripoff companies and the boneheads they hire.

RE: If bail out passes and works

I don't know about others but I just sat down to negotiate my raise and I got more than I thought I would because I complained about the cost of living. Now I can afford a new rig. Plus if they take the 700 billion bail out money and distribute it umong the 200 million people above 18 in the US. Gives about $3,500. I would have enough for a down payment.

RE: 240 volts to the RV?

There is a way to prevent 240 from entering your system..ever. Instead of using a 2 pole 50 amp breaker use two single pole 30 and and make sure they plug into the same set of buss bars in the panel.

RE: more efficient furnace

Flyfisherman128,
Does the Water Heater still function as a Hot water source for the Trailer Sinks and Shower or is it a dedicated unit?
Dunno. I don't have this sytem because most of the campgrounds around here close on Columbus Day which ends my camping season. In any event, my thinking on this is if you don't have a dedicated system then when your heating and showering the water heater may never catch up. After all we are only talking about 5 gallons. I also think that the life span of a single water heater will be reduced because of the added load. The other concern I had was that the water temp in the tank me be reduced below 120 degrees for long periods of time which may breed bacteria. If I were doing it I would use antifreeze in the heating system so I wouldn't have to drain it.
One other thought, my hot water tank has a coil in it that heats the hot water from the engine while you are driving. Perhaps you could tie the hydronic heater into this part of the hot water tank.

RE: Windshield has crack-now what?

I ran a whole year with a crack about 18" long. Only had an issue when I went to get the vehicle inspected. Wouldn't pass with a cracked windshield wether it be in the line of site or not. Apparently here in NYS you can get a ticket for it also.

RE: Update on RV damage

You know, I thought about this last night and I have to point out the obvious. You think he is trying to play games. Yet you are willing to take a check for $36,000 for a headliner?
Yowzer...$36,000 for the head liner. They are not that hard to do. 35 sy of perforated vinyl will run about $2,000. Even if it took 2 men 8 weeks at $2,000 a week per man thats only $16,000. I must be in the wrong bussiness.

RE: 240 volts to the RV?

Any house panel has three bus bars, hot-neutral-hot. Hot-nuetral or nuetral-hot will yield 120 volts. Hot-Hot yields 240 volts. If you get it wrong all of your appliances will work really really good for about 1/10th of a second.

RE: Winterize: Antifreeze vs. blow the lines?

There is always moisture that settles in the low spots in the line. RV antifreeze does not require dilution. An undertimed amount of moisture will affect the protection factor by an undeterminable amount. To get the maximum protection the antifreeze should be used at full strength. Blowing out the lines minimizes dilution. The antifreeze takes care of whats missed.

RE: Concrete Driveways

Excellent answers I am feeling much more secure about the 4" with Rebar.
The base is clay (very hard).
As for the saw cuts, I was going to have them hand trowel the cut (because I thought it would look better) on a diagonal approx 4' apart. The area is 50 feet long x 24 feet wide.
My rig is a toy hauler (somebody else inquired) and yes 6 tires.
Any other great words of widsdom before I have this poured?
Clay is bad. Clay moves. If your soil is heavy clay I would suggest as much as 12" of crushed stone. This could be reduced to 8" if you use a stabilization mat under the stone. I wouldn't put less than 5" of reinforced concrete as a running surface. Reinforce either with fiber or a welded wire fabric. Expansion/control joints no more than 20' preferably 10 feet depending on the size of your slab. Mesh or rebar should be continuous through the control joint so that when it does crack the slabs stay inline. Remember, all concrete will crack. Most cracking will occur from hydration as the concrete sets. The control joints ussually control where the cracks occur, but not always.

Most of the Safari Treks that I have been looking at seem to be setup for the cold/heat. i.e. thermal windows, thicker walls, heated basements, enclosed tanks, etc.

RE: Camping in November

I typically camp till Thanksgiving. Only had one freeze up. It got down to the 20's. I have tank heaters and forgot to turn them on. The waste tanks froze solid but thawed out as the day went on.
